Mara Green Tapia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker
(LCSW) who has been working in the mental health field for the past eight years. Mara received her Bachelor of Arts degree
in 1997 from Arizona State University and her Master’s Degree in 1999 from the University of Southern California. Since that
time, Mara has been working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families across a broad range of settings.
Mara
began her work at Didi Hirsch Community Mental Health Center, where she provided individual, family and group therapy to physically
and sexually abused children. Her responsibilities included doing intakes, psychosocial assessments, diagnostic evaluations,
crisis-intervention and long-term counseling. Following her time at Didi Hirsch, Mara worked as a Clinical Social Worker and
EAP provider at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital where she provided crisis intervention and short-term counseling related
to issues such as adjustment, coping, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, grief and loss. Mara’s role as a hospital social
worker also included assisting psychiatrists in monitoring a wide array of psychotropic medications and supervising Bachelor
of Social Work interns. Mara’s experience has also included work at the Santa Monica-UCLA Rape Treatment Center (RTC) where
she provided rape education, awareness and prevention programs, as well as sexual harassment and bullying programs to middle-school,
high school and college students, faculty, administrators and staff. While working at the RTC, Mara was also responsible
for providing psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention to students regarding a variety of mental health needs including
suicidality, abuse and depression. Mara’s responsibilities also included the provision of overnight on-call services to sexual
assault victims of all ages.
Mara is currently working at The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks as their Middle and Upper
School Counselor. At Buckley, Mara provides a full range of psychosocial services to students and their families surrounding
various adolescent issues including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bullying, peer relationships and family issues.
Mara’s role as the school counselor also includes the development of prevention/education programs and the provision of parent
education, as well as in-services to faculty and staff on specific adolescent issues.
As you can see, Mara Tapia possesses
a vast array of training and experience in working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.
